Light a Candle to begin your prayer:
Almighty God open my mind and heart to your word as I read of your gift of the cross Amen
Read Philippians chapter 2 verses 5-11
Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus,
who, though he was in the form of God,
did not regard equality with God
as something to be exploited,
but emptied himself,
taking the form of a slave,
being born in human likeness.
And being found in human form,
he humbled himself
and became obedient to the point of death—
even death on a cross.
Therefore God also highly exalted him
and gave him the name
that is above every name,
so that at the name of Jesus
every knee should bend,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and every tongue should confess
that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.
Reflection on Bible Reading:
This is one of the first hymns sung by Christians, it tells of the Christ as Victor theory. Jesus through goodness and love has destroyed evil.
Pray this prayer aloud:
Christ our God,
your love is poured out in death for our sakes.
Hold us in your embrace
as we journey through life.
Comfort us with the promise that no power on earth, not even death itself,
can separate us from your love;
and strengthen us to wait
until you are revealed to us
in all your risen glory.
