He can’t be God I know him he put my kitchen in

Light a Candle to begin your prayer:

Almighty God open my mind and heart to your word as I read of your gift of Jesus Amen

Read Mark chapter 6, verses 1-6

He left that place and came to his home town, and his disciples followed him. On the sabbath he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astounded. They said, ‘Where did this man get all this? What is this wisdom that has been given to him? What deeds of power are being done by his hands! Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon, and are not his sisters here with us?’ And they took offence at him. Then Jesus said to them, ‘Prophets are not without honour, except in their home town, and among their own kin, and in their own house.’ And he could do no deed of power there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people and cured them. And he was amazed at their unbelief.

Then he went about among the villages teaching.

Reflection on Bible Reading:

Nobody takes notice of Jesus because they can’t believe that he is the Christ as they know his family. To them he is just a bloke from down the road. Someone who they grew up with and played in the street with, the carpenter they got round to put their kitchen in.

Pray this prayer aloud:

Lord Jesus Christ,

your birth at Bethlehem

draws us to kneel in wonder at heaven touching earth:

accept our heartfelt praise

as we worship you,

our Saviour and our eternal God.

Amen
